If I Do Not Pay Attention to God, Why Should He Listen to Me? - Harriett Ford I parked in my usual space at work that day. At least three times, I pulled out again, and my attention was drawn to the car parked alongside the wall of the building behind me instead of in a diagonal space. At one point I said aloud, I will not back into that car. That afternoon as I was leaving work, my boss walked me out to the car as he always does. Mindful of the rough neighborhood, he "rides shotgun" with all his employees to see them safely off. This time he was speaking to me about my excellent efforts that day.
Watching him wave as he walked away, I backed too far, and my car struck the one parked parallel to the building. As I pondered this frustrating accident, I was tempted to ask, "Lord why didn't you stop me?" The Lord impressed on me that He had pointed out that vehicle to me three times that day. I simply did not heed the warning.
That led me to think about how many accidents and other bad things could have been avoided if we only heed God's warning. Sometimes our receivers are simply not picking up the message. Can we blame God for that?
Father, you told me to attend unto Your words and incline my ear unto Your sayings (Prov. 4: 20-27). I see that when I don't listen, I can get into trouble. Forgive me and help me be more attuned to hear that still, small voice. For if I do not pay attention to Your voice, why should I ask you to pay attention to mine? Amen
