At times, life may seem easier when we are self-centered, no one else’s burdens to bear or think about. It’s usually all about getting what we want out of every situation, and other people just get in the way and complicate things. But it is not as appealing when we reap what we sow and find ourselves on the short end of the stick in our relationships.
There is a beautiful picture presented to us by the apostles and the early Christians. Their willingness to go through great effort to make another individual’s joy full is beautiful to see. This could be as simple as taking time to visit and talk with people who longed for fellowship. The apostles understood the joy people would receive if they took the time to show the love of Christ. They also understood the joy and satisfaction they would reap if they devoted themselves to helping others.
God tells us that a fruitful and happy life, a life where we find ourselves, is one where we lose ourselves. A great way to do this is to be devoted to helping people experience joy in their daily lives in Christ. Why not start now by forgetting yourself and your plans for a moment. Think about who could use a little joy and what you can do make it happen. Then just do it and reap what you sow, as you see them experience joy.
Pursuing a life of selflessness instead of self-centeredness is what the word of God encourages us to do. It pleases God, brings joy to others, and fulfills our lives.
