Eye of the Storm – Hope Never Dies - KEEP PRAYING As I am writing this the eye of Irma is about to go over Key West Florida, where we have many friends who have fled the storm and some who have stayed. We have an amazing outreach oriented church family at the Vineyard in Big Pine Key, spending part of the year there. Over the last few days, I have felt their collective pain, fear, and faith as I communicated with several. Many could lose everything just like those in Houston and other areas.
God has brought several things to mind in his word over these days, Jesus calming the wind and the waves and Jehoshaphat admitting his powerlessness, keeping his eyes on God and not the enemy are two of them.
Another one is David and his child who died. 2 Sam 12:18-23 ESV
…. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.” Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped ….
The message God kept impressing upon me with David is that he went all out in faith, believing for a miracle until the child’s death. David did not give up hope, and when the child died, David kept the faith and placed his eyes on the hope of seeing the child again.
…But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me…”
David, the man after God’s heart, faced many storms in his life and always seemed to come out on top. If David were here, he would keep his eyes on hope, trusting God no matter what happened. He never gave up the faith. It is a much better way to live in our fallen world.
Our Hope never dies.
