He Must Increase - Stephanie M. White He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30 KJV
One simple sentence can convey much. He must increase, but I must decrease. He must become greater in my life. Greater than my thoughts, greater than my feelings, greater than my fears, greater than my past - greater than everything.
How do we get to the place where He is greater than our circumstances? We get there day by day. One day at a time we must choose to make the Word of God our priority in spite of daily distractions. When we choose to think more about the promises of God than our problems, we are choosing to make Him greater in our life. When our past comes knocking, we make the forgiveness of God greater than those memories by choosing to dwell on His forgiveness rather than our sin. When we begin to feel sad, we make Him greater than our feelings by choosing to meditate on verses that declare the joy of the Lord.
We choose what will be greater in our lives. No one else chooses for us. It may be easy to place blame, but it's not profitable. As long as we believe that we cannot help how we feel or how we think, we will be controlled by our circumstances. We weren't created to live in that bondage. We were created to be free!
He must increase; we must decrease. We need to change our focus - we need to make Him the center of our attention, rather than self. We can choose today to put the Word of God first in our life. We can choose today who will be greater in our life.
