Cause and Effect – Toni Babcock
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap," (Galatians 6:7 KJV).
Have you heard the old adage, "You can change your actions, but you can never change the consequences of your actions"? It's one of those sayings that stop you in your tracks.
At some point, we have all acted poorly and out of Christian character, even as believers. Can you think of an old skullduggery, and how you had to pay for it? Thank God by His grace we are saved from the eternal consequences of our actions through faith in Jesus Christ - otherwise we would all end up in a very bad place!
As believers in Jesus, this doesn't leave us completely off the hook however - one constant remains: We may continue to suffer certain consequences for our actions, whether physical, or emotional, or relational. If the police stop us for driving too fast, we will likely be served a speeding ticket, and a fine. If we betray the confidence of a good friend, we will likely be viewed with mistrust and disappointment in the future. We are not immune from the rules of the road, or from the law of cause and effect as it deals with emotions or relationships with other people. But isn't it a liberating thought to realize we are not bound by the law to keep breaking it? We have the power to change our future consequences by changing our present actions. We have the power of God within us as believers in Jesus Christ to live as we should to the glory of God!
Lord Jesus, today and everyday give us a sense of the great liberty we have in You to be what we ought to be.
