The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted… Isaiah 61:1a
Despite of the traits of this fallen world: injustice, back stabbing and other evil practices, the people of the LORD have an upper hand. Though they might suffer for some time, the victory is theirs assured because these are the people who walk by faith and not by sight, resting their lives on the promises of God. In Isaiah 61, where the LORD favors his people, like a spring of water to all thirsty and waiting souls.
For those who suffer injustice, God promises a reward, which their offspring’s will also enjoy (v.8). For all those who struggle with financial instability, the LORD promises the wealth of the world and their riches (v. 6). For all those who have faced disgrace due to injustice, the LORD promises everlasting joy in double proportion (v.7). To all those who mourn, the LORD promises comfort and a crown of beauty instead of ashes (v.2), oil of gladness, instead of mourning, a garment of praise, instead of spirit of despair (v.3).
Our LORD is faithful (v.8) in fulfilling all his promises, but we need to proclaim them in prayers. God not just weighs our words but also our intentions. Seek the will of the LORD first and he will fulfill your heart’s desire. The Spirit of the LORD is on us to preach the good news (v.1), which makes us the ministers of God (v.6). When the LORD promises his faithfulness, then let us keep our part of faithfulness towards him. Life will be all the more joyful, peaceful and satisfying when we strive to seek His kingdom first.
