"I press on that I may lay hold of that which Christ Jesus has laid hold of me." Philippians 3:12 NAS
"That", a simple word, perhaps a conjunction, adverb, adjective, or pronoun. You've studied them. But this particular word surrounds the great mystery of Christian living. It is something worthy of solving. And with discovery, it is the element of our lives that will bring fulfillment and contentment as we daily walk in that truth.
It is important to note that God laid hold of us first. Because of Love and because of "that". We were chosen for a specific time in history for a specific purpose. That purpose is our call... an inner urging toward a certain action or profession. It's "that" for which God created and crafted us. Philippians 3:13-14 continues: "Brethren…I press on toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
It appears that the dynamics of Christian living have to do with both God and man laying hold of something. God snatches us out of this world, and we get to discover why. Therefore, Paul urges us to press on in the search. To press on is to embrace closely. It also means to shape by use of a form or matrix. Does God have a heavenly matrix custom designed for each of us? I believe so.
We press. God shapes. A divine collaboration that culminates in our attaining "that", transformed unto His heavenly matrix. Do you know, or wonder, what "that" is? Seek the Lord and press on toward it. Keep the heavenly vision before you and begin the journey of becoming all God created you to be. Become "that".
