Designer Purses and Heavenly Treasure Sandra Fischer
"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" - Luke 12:34 ESV
Recently I was fascinated by one of the prizes offered on a game show - a collection of five designer purses valued at over $3,000. I must admit I personally do not know any woman who has the means to buy a purse costing $600. If I did, she probably would have a significant amount of cash to carry in it, too. But no matter whether the treasure she has is in the purse itself or what she puts into it, neither will last.
Some treasures do, according to the words of Jesus in Luke 12:33b (ESV) to his disciples - "Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys."
We won't be carrying any purses into heaven, but we can store up deeds of grace and mercy by using our resources to "give to the needy" as the beginning of this verse directs. And the evidence will not be a designer name on what we do but a revelation of the imprint of Christ's rich love in our hearts - "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also".
Lord, please help us discern what You value as heavenly treasure and to devote our hearts to those that are everlasting and that are for Your glory.
