Fruit that Will Last - Susan Barnes The Pharisees heard that Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John … When the Lord learned of this he left Judea. John 4:1&3
Just when Jesus' popularity was peaking, he left. A similar incident is recorded in Mark. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: Everyone is looking for you!" Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else ..." Mark 1:36-38
Jesus wasn’t keen on building his platform. Developing a platform is something authors are regularly told to do. Instead, Jesus relied on God to draw the people that needed to hear his message. It was inevitable news of his healing power would spread, but we often find him telling those he healed not to tell anyone Mark 7:36 and Luke 8:56. There was more to Jesus' message than healing. In John 6:60-66 we learn that despite seeing miracles many disciples stopped following him because of his "hard teaching.” Jesus was interested in "fruit that will last" (John 15:16). Unfortunately, fruit isn’t produced instantaneously as a result of a miracle, fruit is produced over time by abiding in the vine.
Fruit trees don't attract a crowd. Hebrews 11 lists many "heroes of the faith" and we find they are commended for their unwavering faith in God despite difficult circumstances. In the end, all these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance" (v.13).
It is wonderful when God performs a miracle but ultimately he is looking for those who are committed for the long haul.

Radical New Covenant Bible Studies for Radical Freedom in Christ
Jesus poured out His blood for the New Covenant of grace and truth, replacing the Old Covenant letter of the law of Moses. Believers are exclusively under the New Covenant, the last will and testament of Jesus that began after the cross. And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Luke 22:20

Recent Amazon Review:
"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus; but truth defeats lies every time and never forsakes the believer." 2-18-17 |
