In Charge – Anna Darlene Edmondson
“When Joshua looked up, he saw a Man standing with His sword drawn” (Jos 5:13 Amp)Many centuries ago, the Israelites experienced a ‘hands-on’ Father. One who led and fed them during their desert wanderings. Miraculously, their shoes did not wear out after 40 long years. Although God’s presence proved steadying, they belly-ached against Moses and dreamed of going back into Egyptian bondage. But faithfully, God continued raining manna from heaven, gushing water from rocks, and promising them a land flowing with milk and honey.
On top of that, one arduous task remained concerning enemies in the land. They must drive out the inhabitants of Jericho, in order to be safe. Certainly not a small task. At this juncture, Joshua was chosen to finish the task that Moses had begun. Accepting responsibility, Joshua stepped up to the plate and began the scouting process, looking for the weakest link. Additionally, an insider named Rahab risked her life to help Joshua map out a battle plan.
Soon, as nighttime gave way to stillness, Joshua took one last reconnaissance. While studying different strategies, he strolled around the formidable structure. Then suddenly out of the blue, a unique soldier clad in body armor appeared. Joshua asked the soldier, “Are you on the enemies side …or do you fight for Israel?” The Man replied, “Neither. I am a Commander in charge of all (Joshua 5).
Dear friends, some situations can only be dismantled by God. In the nick of time, He will take over when He sees we are helpless or in a deep pit “I Am the Lord God, there is no other God besides Me” (Isa 45:5 KJV).
Prayer: Now more than ever we need you Father. We trust You to keep us safe. Amen.
