Everything We Need - Jennifer Woodley ‘His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.’ 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV).
Illness can be a distressing part of life. Doctors, specialists and friends are full of opinions and advice that can leave us feeling fragmented, wondering which way to turn. Everyone has suggestions. How are we to know what’s best?
At these times we need to remember Peter’s words that, as God’s chosen people, everything we need to know how to live life is within. The wisdom and understanding to choose wisely in times of decision has already been deposited in us. All that we need has been lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing Jesus – the One who invites us into this glorious undertaking of having His divine nature in us.
Every virtue required to live our lives well is there inside of us to draw upon. Peter lists these virtues: goodness, wisdom, self-control, patient endurance, godliness, mercy and love. Since these virtues are already planted deep within, and we possess them in abundant supply, they will keep us from being inactive or fruitless in our life work of living to honor God.
Yes, it is good to seek advice from others – there are times when this is necessary – but when making decisions, let’s remember that we can listen to the Spirit within to show us what is best and true. God has empowered us already.
‘Father, I am so grateful that you have given me everything I need to travel this journey you invite me into. Help me to listen well to your Spirit. Amen.’
