Focus on Him – Susan Barnes "We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5
One of the keywords for elite sportspeople is: focus. The athletes are either focused on their lane, the ball or the next movement, and you can see it in their eyes.
Recently, a worship leader at a church we visited told us to focus on God. I thought about the determination and commitment of sportspeople when they focus on what's important to them. So I focused on God, on the cross and remembered his great love for me.
The Bible instructs us to take charge of our minds, thoughts, and attitudes, with the same determination and commitment as elite sportspeople. Hebrews 3:1 and 12:2 tell us to fix our thoughts and our eyes on Jesus. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think about those things which are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. 1 Peter 1:13 tells us to prepare our minds for action. We are not to let our minds wander around aimlessly on the things that the world tries to feed us. The world through advertising, peer pressure, and negative influences tempts us to believe only what we can see with our eyes and only what we can feel.
But "faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1).
Living by our physical senses or feelings is a roller coast ride and not a true measure of how things are from God's perspective. It is only God's perspective that is true, and we need to align our thoughts and beliefs with his word to walk in his truth.
