“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15 KJV)
Is there someone in your life who will not forgive you; to whom you’ve already said you were sorry? Perhaps you have given up hope they ever will. In those times when mercy seems to hang in the balance, and you feel resigned to a life of feeling unforgiven, know this: There is only room in heaven for one all-present, all-knowing, all-powerful God, and it is not the one who is refusing to forgive you. Jesus spoke against having an unforgiving spirit. Because refusing to forgive is really displacing God with ourselves in an attempt to hold someone in condemnation. Don’t give anyone else that kind of power.
God’s grace and loving-kindness is free to those who turn to Him in faith. We experience His forgiveness when we rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross, trusting in Him as Savior and Lord. Let us open your heart to this wonderful Savior and surrender all feelings of condemnation to him. Let us believe the truth about God’s forgiveness and learn to forgive others likewise. “If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” (Psalm 130:2-3 KJV)
