A Persistent Friend – Jennifer Woodley Suppose one of you has a friend and you go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; for a friend of mine has arrived and I have nothing to set before him.’ Luke 11:5 (NRSV)
We are so culturally removed from this parable, it is hard to identify with it. We have mobile phones to keep us in touch at any hour of the day or night and 24/7 stores so there is no need to call on friends at midnight to borrow food. So how can we possibly relate to this story? Perhaps Jesus is driving home an underlying point here about a character trait that is far more important than waking our friend for food at midnight.
Persistence. Our Saviour highlights the attribute of keeping on keeping on rather than giving up. In a culture that resists pressing in during hard times and prefers to take the easy path, this parable is not dated, but very pertinent to the times that we live in.
Where in your life are you needing to courageously persist? Is work tough? Has a relationship gone sour? Are the children struggling? Or perhaps finances are tight? Whatever the situation, let’s confidently approach our Heavenly Father persisting in our prayers to Him, for He delights to give us the treasures of His Kingdom and will reward those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
Father, this morning I hold tightly to your promise that you will reward me as I continue to seek your wisdom and guidance. Help me in my time of need and trouble this day. Keep me close to you. Thank you.

Radical New Covenant Bible Studies for Radical Freedom in Christ
Jesus poured out His blood for the New Covenant of grace and truth, replacing the Old Covenant letter of the law of Moses. Believers are exclusively under the New Covenant, the last will and testament of Jesus that began after the cross. And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Luke 22:20

Perfect to equip the believer for defending their faith. Ideal to send to a skeptical friend or family member. Great for teens and young adults who have never reviewed the objective evidence for God's existence and identity.
An in-depth study of the factual evidence leads a person to realize how little faith they need to believe, while they gain great faith at the same time.
Running close to 5 stars with over 180 online reviews.
Recent Amazon Review:
"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus; but truth defeats lies every time and never forsakes the believer." 2-18-17 |
