TEACH ME TO PRAY - Shirley Lowrey With so much evil happening all around you, what can you do? Have you been tempted to just crawl into a hole? Look the other way? It’s easy to feel helpless. And saying you will pray may sound trite, but is it?
Paul tells us: “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” (Romans 8:26 NIV) You are not alone in your prayers. As a believer, God sent the Holy Spirit to guide you. The Holy Spirit acts as a translator to interpret what words cannot express.
Paul tells us to present our requests to God and be at peace. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV) God, who knows your request before you ask, wants to hear your voice.
So be bold! Ask God, with the help of the Holy Spirit for what you need, what your family needs, what your church needs, what your community needs, what your nation needs, what the world needs. With thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and you will find peace.
Lord, teach me to pray. Thank You for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for the answers and the peace You give me. Amen.
