Fixing Your Hope - Karen Pourbabaee “Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13NAS
Hope is a universal enigma. Everyone hopes; it keeps us spiritually alive and motivated on our journey. What are you hoping in or for? And how is that going? Have you ever asked yourself why is my hope not working, even if the object of your hope seems to be God’s will? Do you feel as if your hope is broken? Fix it!
The apostle Peter lays out for us the fundamentals of hope, taking some of that mystery away. Here are his steps to genuine hope:
1. Gird your minds for action: Prepare your mind for action. Find the truth in God’s Word. Then renew your thinking to banish entangling doubts, fears, or reservations. Genuine hope will only happen when your mind is girded with the truth, not your own plans and ideas.
2. Keep sober in spirit: Be serious, thoughtful, logical, unemotional. Concentrate on truth. Sober living implies alertness and evaluating things clearly because you see clearly, knowing the truth.
Girding your mind and being sober are the means to the end of the main thing, hoping fully. They stir up our hope!
3. Fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you:
When we fix our hope fully on Jesus, His righteousness and finished work, His grace is always revealed. He is the object of our hope. He is the only answer. Not things of this world we are hoping for or hoping will happen. Never place your hope in anything less than Jesus and His abundant grace.
Lord, help me to hope fully in Jesus and Your grace He brought us. Amen.
