Lost - Karen Pourbabaee “At the sight of the crowds, His heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36 NAB
Are you part of the sheepfold that feels troubled and abandoned? Off- course, wandering, essentially lost. Remember feeling secure, reveling in fellowship, hearing the Lord’s clarion words, knowing where you were headed? Do you long for those days?
“We wander like lost sheep, true: but God is a faithful Shepherd who pursues us relentlessly.” An apt word by Eugene Peterson from A Long Obedience. We need a Shepherd to call us back home so we know we are loved. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, lays down His life out of love. (John 10:11)
We long for someone who really knows and understands us. John 10:14 answers that: “I am the Good Shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me.” We need to know there is One whose all-seeing eyes watch for those times we fall behind, run ahead, or take a detour. We need a Voice guiding us, going ahead of us as we journey. Psalm 23:3 promises “You guide me along the right path.” But we must listen and follow that Voice. (John 10:3-4)
We need One who cares for us when wounded. The Good Shepherd restores our soul. (Psalm 23:2), because His promise is: “For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your soul.” (1 Peter 2:25) And when He restores us, He promises to nurture once again. (Psalm 23:1)
He keeps us as a shepherd keeps his flock. (Jeremiah 31:10) The Lord does not despise His straying sheep; with a heart of compassion He searches and snatches the one. (Mathew 18:11-12) We are all longing for a Shepherd. Listen for His Voice calling you home.
