I Can’t Tolerate Machines – Ken Ebright “Foolish people lose their tempers, but wise people control theirs.” Proverbs 29:11 (NCV)
I cannot tolerate things that don’t work. Sometimes, I just want to take a sledgehammer and destroy my computer. Somehow, I think I’ll feel better if I break it into a million pieces.
I once worked in a video production position at a local origination channel where the video players never worked. There were days when I wanted to take the video player and drop it off a high building. Today, my job has changed, but some things haven’t. I now use a machine that processes mail, and I am always having trouble with it. When it acts up I have been guilty of yelling at it. It never replies.
Having worked with machinery all my life, I have little tolerance for things that don’t work, especially when my boss wants things done. However, it is foolishness to scream and destroy equipment when I get mad. Losing my temper and yelling at a machine could potentially lead people to reject or turn away from the Lord. Satan knows my weaknesses, and he exploits them every chance he gets, uncooperative machines is just one of them. When I keep in mind that I am a light for Christ and the enemy only comes to kill, steal and destroy, I have a much better chance of taking the right steps.
First, I say, “Get away from me Satan.” Second, I pray and ask Jesus to help me when I am starting to fume, or I pray before I turn on my computer or machine. It works because the Lord has helped me to keep calm.
I want as many people as possible to go to Heaven with me, so I try my best to show people I am a Christ follower by my actions.
