“…He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy” (Zeph. 3:17 NAS)
Unashamedly, jumping half-circles, David danced before the Lord. Stripped of clothing, except undergarments, he deemed the occasion praiseworthy. A weighty moment indeed, as God’s ‘Ark of the Covenant’ returned to Israel. David grasped the significance of God’s presence represented by the Ark. Perchance he recalled Israel’s miraculous deliverance from Egyptian bondage. After crossing the Red Sea, Miriam clanged a tambourine and led other women to dance unto God.
For the most part, we understand David and Miriam’s excitement. To contrast though, how do we feel, knowing God joys over us? Unsettling? Yet, it’s true. Astonishingly true. Against all logic, God regards our tiniest trivia. In brief, a jealous God embodied with a fiery devotion that transcends human wisdom. Therefore, according to Strong’s, the Hebrew word for rejoice is ‘Machot.’ It means to spin around under the influence of violent emotion. The first time we see this word is in Genesis 1:31. Here, God luxuriates (Machot) over everything He created. Singing and dancing for ‘it was very good’! Breathtaking.
Fittingly, the ‘prodigal son parable’ displays God’s cup-running-over devotion. And notably, this is the only time in Scripture depicting the Father running. So, at long last, over the horizon, He recognizes His son plodding nearer. And despite cultural rules, the Father girds His outer raiment to sprint faster. Rushing headlong with reckless abandon, He falls upon him, showering with kisses. Once home, the prodigal hears loud music as they celebrate his homecoming with a party and joyful dance.
Friend, like David, Miriam or the Prodigal, God’s love rearranges our lives. By accepting Christ, we experience His perfect love. Afterwards, pure compassion overtakes us, then overflows, and we can’t help but dance! Sacred.
Father, lover of our souls, we thank You.

Recent Amazon Review:
"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus; but truth defeats lies every time and never forsakes the believer." 2-18-17 |
