Tranquility Amidst Turmoil Jennifer Woodley
‘When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.’ Mark 6: 54-55 (NRSV) They were hurried and harried; a frantic rush of people trying to jostle their way to Jesus. He, however, was at peace. A tranquil presence in the midst of an eager and anxious crowd. As more heard of his miracles, the external rush gathered momentum, but Jesus’ inner world remained the same – tranquil despite the turmoil.
The Savior stayed in control, in charge and inwardly peaceful by remaining deeply connected to his Father. Fractured and fractious people demanded of Jesus, vying for his attention. However, his spirit was not to be made turbulent by their turbulence. Such is the reward of resting securely in the Father’s provision and love. Oh, what heavenly peace. Isn’t it difficult to be full of peace when life is rushing at us from all directions? How do we remain steady with life’s circumstances hurled at us?
Come, let’s step aside for a moment. Breathe deep and thank Jesus that he is here right now and that he is more than enough to help us. Be still and surrender ourselves and circumstances to him and his overcoming peace. Know that the God of all creation is in control. Say that aloud. Believe that he can help regardless of the need. He will not pass by. He has given us everything this day for life and victorious living. Now let’s thank him, for God delights in the praises of his people.
