On the Road: Change of Vision Karen Pourbabaee “The Lord will give you bread in adversity and water in affliction…with your own eyes you shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you: This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:20-21 NAB
The two companions who walked in tandem along the Emmaus road were indeed filled with confusion and doubt. Being wrapped up in their own worries and plans impaired their vision, until the Lord intervened on their journey. Their situation didn’t change, but their hearts did as the Lord revealed Himself in the Word and in the sharing of bread. Now, their hearts burned in a fusion of joy and hope; a new vision was birthed.
New vision always leads to new purpose and mission. The pair changed course, running with enthusiasm toward Jerusalem, back on the path toward Jesus.
We all find ourselves on the Emmaus road. In need of a visit from the Lord. A companion on the journey. We find ourselves desperate for a word from Him, our spiritual bread. Just a glimpse of Him, that our clouded vision might dissipate. We need the renewal, inspiration, and hope that Jesus offers. There is a road custom built for our feet to tread, one that leads us along His path for our lives.
God’s path will bring you from fear to faith, from despair to hope, from discouragement to joy, from clouded vision to clear vision. On life’s road, be open to the coming of the Lord. Only He can change your heart, your vision, and your destination.
Open my eyes, Lord, that I may know the hope of Your calling and walk the path You have destined for me. Amen.
