Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8 NIV
Don't be deceived – don't believe something that isn't true. God cannot be mocked – God’s Word is absolute truth. If God told us that our sins are under the blood, then they're under the blood! The Bible tells us that there is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ. A life of "crime and punishment" isn't God's plan for us; therefore, reprisal cannot be the topic here in Galatians. If God isn't referring to payback, then to what is He referring?
We can sow one of two ways - to the Spirit or the flesh. We choose to plant seeds of the Word or seeds of the flesh, but we must remember that the seeds we choose will bring forth fruit. If we're abiding in the Word, then the Word will bring forth Spiritual fruit. The opposite is also true – the flesh will give birth to flesh. We must understand why we're reaping the fruit we're reaping. We must stop believing that God is punishing us and we must realize that we're only hurting ourselves by choosing to plant seeds of the flesh.
When the fruit of the flesh is evident in our lives, we must understand why. Fruit is only as good as the seed that was planted. If you don't like your harvest, then change your seed! You can begin to plant the Word today and you can look forward to a Spiritual harvest!
