If God Be For Us – Toni Babcock "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31b KJV)
Did you ever keep hitting a brick wall in life and complain, "I give up! God must be against me!" Sometimes we fail to look in the mirror and discover who the real nemesis is. It's not God that can't be trusted. We have become our own saboteurs.
When we keep hitting a "brick wall", God may be trying to get our attention. Resistance comes when we turn the God volume down, and begin listening to our own noise. We whine. We sigh. We noisily fan our regrets, and quietly snuff out the promise. We hale our sins to the inner inquisition, and throw ourselves on the rack. We leave off faith and squat in an empty hovel, cutting ourselves off from God's goodness.
If this is you my friend, know this is not the blessedness of the gospel, and it is not the life Christ called you to. God is for us, but when we choose to disregard His word, or when we cease to believe what He says - how can God be for that? Jesus didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Matthew 9:13 KJV). So learn to trust in Jesus in spite of yourself - because no one is going to achieve perfection in their own power on this planet. Avoid a morbid preoccupation with your past mistakes, and occupy yourself with taking God as His word, and serving others. Learn to discern between the voice of Satan who accuses you, and the voice of Christ who implores you to cease from sin, trust in Him, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is God's will for you. Will you obey?
