Jesus Christ our Lord – Sharon Dow
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 1: 24-25 KJV
As a child I loved the Doxologies. I remember many services ending with one of them. The words sounded solemn yet majestic. Even at an early age they moved me.
Jude ends his tiny epistle with the words recorded above. A closer look reveals a wealth of truth. It is dedicated to God. He is the “him” referred to in the first section. And look what he, God, can and will do for us.
He is able. That is a full lesson in itself. He is able to create the world. He is able to provide salvation. He is able to save the worst of us. He is able to prepare a place for us. He is able to provide eternal life.
He’s a personal God; involved in our day to day life. He is able to keep us from falling; falling back into our sinful ways. He has promised that he will continue the good work he began in us. Why? So that he can present us faultless – faultless – without sin before the throne of God. That is amazing!
And he does it with exceeding joy. He loves us and delights in us. What a glorious thought.
Jude ends with a tribute to him: he’s wise, he’s God our Saviour, he’s glorious, he’s majestic, he has authority and power both now and forever. Awesome God! Amen!
