Not a Taskmaster by Susan Barnes
"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing" Zephaniah 3:17 NIV
One of the tricks of the devil is deceive us into thinking God is a taskmaster who's difficult to please. This is an entirely inaccurate view of God which even the Old Testament doesn't support.
Joseph, despite many difficulties, saw God as wanting to save his people. In Genesis 50:20 Joseph talks about God's motive for sending him to Egypt and says, "...but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
The rules and regulations in Leviticus were intended to protect people at a time when hygiene and cooking facilities were primitive plus to teach them to be a distinctive people who didn't blend in with other cultures.
Throughout the book of Judges God raised up leaders to save his people from being destroyed by their enemies even though they continually strayed from God's ways.
The Psalmist often poured out his heart but then came to the conclusion that God's love endured forever. Then there are the prophets who repeatedly proclaimed, appealed and wooed God's people back to himself.
In the New Testament, Jesus told three parables in Luke 15 which portray God as the loving Father who seeks the lost and then all heaven rejoices over the one that is found.
Let us see God as the Bible depicts him - a loving Father who longs to save us.
