Where Do I Find Wisdom? What is Wisdom and Understanding? A Parable of Job
Lakella Davenport
"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7 KJV)
What exactly does it mean to be wise, especially wise biblically? Wise people are those who are known to possess a lot of common sense. But to be wise biblically one must have spiritual knowledge. What kind of spiritual knowledge? The answer is knowledge of Jesus Christ. We acquire Godly wisdom when we believe, learn, and imitate the nature of His Son Jesus Christ. When we imitate the nature of Christ and his actions toward his fellow man by loving and serving others unconditionally, we display God's wisdom.
Wisdom, or Godly wisdom is something that cannot be bought with silver or gold (see Job 28:15-18 KJV). The price of wisdom is far above that of silver, gold, rubies, or your finest pearls. Jesus paid the price for us to receive Godly wisdom. Godly wisdom involves instruction, guidance and obedience in God’s word through leadership of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Jesus is the manifestation of that Godly wisdom.
As Christians, we all have the mind of Christ. To have the mind of Christ is to have access to Godly knowledge or wisdom. Wisdom can only be found through knowledge of Jesus Christ and careful study of the word of God through instruction received by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us. For the Holy Spirit can teach us all things and bring all things to our remembrance (see John 14:26 KJV). Having that Godly consciousness that the Holy Spirit provides is critical to leading a Spirit filled life (see John 16:8 KJV). A holy life is one that glorifies God in all that you do.
God knows where wisdom can be found, for God "...understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof," (Job 28:23 KJV). Unto man he said, "...Behold, the fear of the Lord that is wisdom: and to depart from evil is understanding," (Job 28:28 KJV).
