Watch Our Words - Tricia Draper The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Proverbs 18:21 NIV)
Our words have more power than we know. We can change someone's life for the better, or we can kill their spirit. We need to watch what we are saying to people. The inflection in our tone of voice is so important, too. It often speaks louder than our words. The Bible tells us we speak from what fills our hearts. If we are full of life and joy, we can build each other up. If we are putting negative things into our hearts and spirits, we will only bring destruction upon ourselves and others.
In this day of being surrounded by bad news everywhere we turn, we need to purposefully fill our minds with positive things. We can read our Bible to learn the wonderful truths of God, resting in His promises of life and peace. We can be aware of the people we associate with daily. To the best of our ability, we need some time to fellowship with people whose speech is wholesome, uplifting, and faith-building. We can also choose to be an uplifting person for those in our life.
Reading God's Word, listening to Christian teachers, or just spending time with God will have an incredible effect on our lives. When we are firmly established in the truth of His great love for us and how good God is, we will radiate life and naturally share Him with others. Let's decide every day, no matter our circumstances, to fill ourselves up with the goodness of God so we can speak forth life to everyone we meet.
Lord, please help me today to speak positively to myself and the people around me. I want to speak everlasting life in all circumstances. Thank You for giving me the words. In Jesus Name, Amen.
