Waiting Time - Karen Pourbabaee
“For you, yourselves, know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:2
Have you discerned the times and season we are living in? Are we possibly living in the verses of Mathew 24? On the Mount of Olives, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Tell us…what signs will there be of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3) Check out the subtitles: “The Beginning of Calamities”, “The Great Tribulation”, “The Coming of the Son of Man”, and “The Unknown Day and Hour”. Read all the details in Matthew 24. Could they be likely scenarios playing out right before our eyes? One thing we do know is that we don’t know: “But of that day and hour, no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” (Matthew 24:36)
What do we do in the waiting time? Continue efforts in persevering, for “the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.” (Mathew 24:13) We can count on the Lord and His heavenly hosts to aid us in the final times. Paul’s concluding exhortations to the local church in Thessalonians 5 provide a guide for our waiting time today:
Stay alert and sober (1Thess. 5:6) Paul calls us children of light; we must stay awake. To be sober we’re called to be serious in character and conduct, rational, and temperate. Dress appropriately. (1 Thess. 5:8) Put on the breastplate of faith and love that protects our hearts. Add the helmet that is hope for salvation that protects our minds. Encourage and be at peace with one another. (1 Thess. 5:11,13) Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks, and refrain from every kind of evil. (1 Thess. 5:16-22) Stay busy in the waiting times with Paul’s proposed agenda. Be ready!
