Trials Prove Our Faith - Robert Schaetzle
Every day, we're subjected to circumstances that test our belief. Our response reveals the genuineness of our faith. When we encounter challenging situations, we can view them as obstacles or faith opportunities.
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV
Situations may come up at work, or a decision made by our family may occur that we dislike and challenge our faith. We have a choice to see these as burdens or grow by seeking the Lord's preeminence to lead us victoriously in all things. Even our terrible situation with Covid-19 offers an excellent opportunity for a deeper faith walk.
It makes it much easier to walk by faith when we keep our eyes on God's big picture. This world is temporary, and our home is with the Lord. God knows we cannot lose if we live here longer or go home tomorrow. His focus is on the greater picture. We see a shadow of this with Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers. In the end, what seemed terrible saved his family and the nation of Israel to birth the Messiah.
We live today is a season we all wish would go away. We have the pandemic, hostile behavior within our social framework, job loss, an all-out assault on truth, and more. These times are easier when we keep our hearts in heaven and our eyes on God's eternal promises. All these things we see today shall pass, and we will see them no more. The fleeting suffering we experience in this world is no comparison to the glory awaiting us in eternity.
For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? Romans 8:24 RSV
Use this time wisely and grow your faith in God's promises. It's the only place you will find peace in the storm.
