Too Many Changes - Marlene Custer
Coping with a world pandemic has made the last eight months or so quite stressful. What started out as three weeks of quarantine has turned into months of isolation, job losses, and frustration. Children are facing anxiety as well as adults. To make matters worse, not even the ‘experts’ agree on what we should do.
Don’t wear a mask. Do wear a mask! If you get Covid, take hydroxychloroquine. If you get Covid, don’t take hydroxychloroquine. Open schools. Don’t open schools. Churches need to open. Keep churches closed. No wonder the stress levels and mental problems are at an all-time high. What should one believe? Who can one believe?
Thankfully, we have a God Who loves us and cares about us. He wants us to know the peace that only He can give. And He does not change! We can find comfort by turning to His Word. John’s gospel, chapter 14, verse 6, quotes Jesus Himself assuring us that He is “the way and the truth and the life.” He pleads with us to “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NIV) The writer of Hebrews declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 NIV) I am so thankful for that reassurance!
“Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Savior. I thank you that I can trust You. When all around me is change and uncertainty, I thank You that You never change. Every time I am tempted to worry or fret, I will turn my thoughts to You and Your Word. Thank you for Your peace. Amen.”
