There is No Darkness Living in Jesus Robert Schaetzle “If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.” Psalm 139:11-12 NASB
The world around us is filled with dark shadows of despair, anger, deceit and turmoil. It is clear that living within the reasoning of our own fleshly desires does not produce a path of light. One can define living for ‘self’ as living in darkness, with no real light to lead our way. King David, when he penned this Psalm, was certain Who he would follow. It is only God who can light the way.
Later, David’s son Solomon, cautioned us in proverbs to ‘lean not on our own understanding, nor be wise in our own eyes….’ From experience, and in line with his father David, his counsel is to place a higher value on God’s understanding, thoughts and authority than our own.
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139:17-18
In my senior years I tend to wake more at night. Sometimes, I try to use this time wisely and consider how our Lord would spend all night awake up on a hillside, listening to His Father wisdom. Even though there was no darkness in Him, Jesus still made this choice as an example for us.
When you can’t sleep at times like me, take advantage of the moment and listen carefully. Anticipate that our Father wants to share His wisdom and dispel some of the darkness we are exposed to in this world.
