The Real News is God’s Good News! Cheryl Weber Television and newspaper reports these days can leave us feeling overwhelmed with fear, depression, confusion, or anger. We wonder if we can trust these news outlets to tell us the truth or if they are manipulating us for their own questionable agendas.
God and his word, the Bible, are the only sources we can trust to tell us the truth about ourselves and our world. At first, it sounds like bad news: Our sins lead to death (Rom. 6:23) and our good deeds cannot make us right with God (Isa. 64:6). We are under God’s wrath (John 3:36) and are condemned if we don’t repent and believe (John 3:18).
But the good news is that by repenting of our sins and accepting what Christ did for us through his sacrificial death, we are born again to eternal life (John 3:16, 1 Peter 1:23). We become dearly loved children of God (1 John 3:1, Rom. 8:15) and will one day go to the place Jesus prepared for us (John 14:3). Our lives and hearts are transformed (2 Cor. 5:17) and we are filled with and empowered by God’s Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). We have victory over our sins (Rom. 6:9-11), become more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37), and possess the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16). We can trample on the supernatural powers of evil (Luke 10:19) and enjoy the peace only Jesus can give (John 14:27). We will one day receive the reward of our faithfulness (2 Tim. 4:7-8) and dwell on a renewed earth in transformed bodies with other faithful believers (Rev. 21:1-5). God’s good news will prevail. Believe it, receive it, and rejoice.
PRAYER: Almighty God, I thank you that your good news brings us new life, hope, peace, victory, and joy for today and the future. Amen.
