The Love We Need in this World – Toni Babcock
When we are filled with the love of God, what should it look like to others?
Love is patient — it doesn’t roll its eyes when the elderly lady counts out pennies from her teeny-weeny coin purse while we wait.
Love is kind — it doesn’t swipe Fluffy off the counter in an angry fit when kitty gets caught licking milk out of our cereal bowl.
Love doesn’t envy — its okay with the promotion our co-worker got that we missed.
Love is not boastful — it doesn’t need to tell how much we gave or to who.
Love is not arrogant — it doesn’t make us think we’re better than anyone else.
Love is not rude — it cares about other people’s feelings.
Love is not self-seeking — it doesn’t always have to come out on top.
Love is not irritable — it puts other people first, what’s to get irritated about?
Love keeps no records of wrong – it doesn’t keep score so we can get even.
I didn’t make up this list of love attributes, they’re in the Bible:
“Love is patient, love is kind, love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs,” (1 Corinthians 13:4-5).
The scripture goes on to say, “Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends…”
We all need a love like that.
