Take Refuge in God – Toni M. Babcock “The righteous one rejoices in the LORD and takes refuge in him; all those who are upright in heart will offer praise,” (Psalm 64:10).
I remember a dedicated pastor many years ago who always found a reason to praise the Lord even in the midst of trouble. He never allowed discouragement to knock him down long enough for anyone to notice.
I knew he’d been divorced following his conversion, and his son had gotten in trouble with the law. Still, this pastor chose to take refuge in the Lord when life didn’t go as planned and he was constantly praising Him.
The psalmist David’s life didn’t always go as planned either. There were times he was attacked by those “who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim bitter words like arrows…” (Psalm 64:3 CSB). He spent years outwitting the crafty schemes of his enemies, particularly King Saul who sought to kill him. Still, David learned to take refuge in God, knowing one day God would let “their own tongues work against them,” (Ref: Psalm 64:8 CSB).
When we let God settle our cause and choose to praise the Lord in our trials, it’s amazing how He can turn things around!
If you feel down in the dumps because of how you’ve been treated, or you’re tempted to get even with someone who’s turned your life upside down, remember, “The righteous one rejoices in the LORD and takes refuge in him; all those who are upright in heart will offer praise,” (Psalm 64:10 CSB).
