Small Moment Living – Jennifer Woodley ‘Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now and don’t get caught up with what may or may not happen tomorrow.’ Matthew 6:34 (Message)
We tend to believe that if we’re not producing something tangible and measurable throughout our day, we’re not achieving much. If we can’t cross tasks off a to-do list, well then, what have we possibly accomplished that’s of any use? As a mother, driven by a daily list of things to do, I often struggled with this idea. If the list didn’t have lines through every item, I believed that not much was achieved.
But perhaps we need to re-frame our idea of achieving much. Perhaps getting more done is not that important, after all. What if the small, seemingly simple moments of our days were really the most important? What if our life calling was not to do more tasks, but instead, to be fully there in the small moments of each day?
Small moment living is about focusing on what’s before us. Those simple, ordinary moments can be laughing with a friend, listening to a child, playing a game with our daughter or son, sitting with a loved one, going for a walk or simply enjoying the company of someone we hardly know.
Let’s embrace smallness and ordinariness. Only when we give ourselves fully in the small moments of our days will we be making our greatest achievements.
‘Father, forgive me for racing ahead and not seeing the importance of what is happening right now. Help me to pay attention to what is just before me and listen to what you have to say to me in those small moments.’
