She Yelled at Me - Ken Ebright

She called and started yelling at me. I hung up on her. She called back and spoke in a quieter tone. As usual, it was hard to talk to her, causing me a lot of stress. I tried to speak, but she refused to give me a chance. Previously, when she had allowed me to talk, it appeared that my words would just go in one ear and out the other, she never actually listened. Therefore, she was not able to grow.
I am referring to my half-sister Alice, who recently passed away. The sad part is, no one wanted to be around her. That included her sons, dad, her other brother, and myself. There were times in her angry rants when she would chew us out for not staying in touch. We tried, but it was always the same. If she had listened for once when I tried to confront her lovingly, she might have been able to have close relationships with her family. Unfortunately, Alice was blind to how she pushed people away. We could see it, but she would not hear us.
That makes me think. Do we listen to the correction that other people or the Lord bring to us? Yes, I know it can be tough to take correction, but correction from other people could be from the Lord. Until we listen, we will never know. I believe that our lives on Earth are preparation for heaven. The Lord wants to help us, not hurt us, and he often speaks through others.
Our sins were forgiven at the cross, but we could miss out on a closer relationship with the Lord and our family, if we refuse to pay attention. Let's listen for the Lord's voice directly and also when others offer loving correction. If it is not done out of love, or from the Lord, He will let us know.
