Shattered Pieces – Jennifer Woodley ‘The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.’ Psalm 51:17 (NIV)
Seems that everywhere we turn we are confronted with brokenness. Marriages crumbling, bodies breaking down, friendships disintegrating and dreams never amounting to anything. Our lives can be full of shattered pieces piled high before us.
But brokenness can be the very beginning of healing. The very beginning of relationship, the start of something, not the end. When life is falling apart, God takes our broken pieces, and brings something good and beautiful from them. He can restore what has been stolen from our lives.
However, we must trust ourselves to His infallible love. And that’s hard. Sometimes the best things for us are the hardest things to do, aren’t they? But with a broken spirit that’s withered and weary, and a contrite heart in need of nourishment, we can come to our loving Savior and begin again. Jesus will not cast us away from His presence. He fills us with His Spirit and restores to us the joy of our salvation, igniting our passion to love Him more deeply while sustaining us amid our brokenness.
What keeps you from His outstretched arms? Why struggle on alone? When the shattered pieces of our broken world are mounting high, know that we don’t have to face the mess on our own. No brokenness is beyond God’s help.
‘Father, I come to you with a broken spirit and a hurting heart. You know my situation and what I need right now. Fill me Lord, and heal me as only you can do. Thank you.’
