Seek Jesus Peace, Not the Enemies Michael Edwards I believe that most Christians seek an inferior kind of peace. We pray for bad things to stop and good things to happen. I completely understand why we do this, but we need to know that we are praying for a second-rate kind of peace, circumstantial peace.
Circumstantial peace is a counterfeit offered by the enemy to impersonate the peace of Christ. It is the only peace the world has access to, chasing it their entire lives. However, if things go wrong, circumstantial peace is nowhere to be found.
If we trust circumstances for peace, we give the enemy and circumstances the power and authority to steal our peace. If we trust Jesus for our peace, circumstances can never take our peace. Look at our world today, the brewing storm of turmoil, unrest, government strife, war and now the coronavirus. We all know we need more than circumstantial peace. The great news is that Christians have access to Jesus' own peace (shalom) that surpasses all understanding.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7 ESV
We cannot afford to wait until circumstances make us desperate for His peace, we need to start preparing, by practicing our walk in it today. The only way to break free from our addiction to the world's counterfeit peace is to stop seeking circumstantial peace and to begin seeking and trusting Jesus' peace alone in our current struggles. His peace allows us to rise above fear, worry, and any circumstance, allowing us to be of great value in times of need.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 ESV
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Col 3:15 ESV |
