SEIZE YOUR INHERITANCE Julia Ferdinand
Picture this: You’re standing on the bank of a deep, wide river. You need to reach the other side but have to swim to get there. There are swirling eddies in the water, so you know things will get rough, but you came prepared—barefoot and donning a swimsuit. Just as you decide to dip a toe in to test the temperature, a log approaches, floating right toward you. But there’s something weird about this ‘log’. Near the top, you spot a small freaky yellow orb with a vertical slit in the middle—that blinks! You shriek and lurch back when realization dawns; it’s not a log at all—it’s a crocodile!
Perhaps you believed something great was waiting on the other side of the river, but NOBODY mentioned the crocodile! Now how badly do you want to get there?
Following God can be similar. We are not given a detailed description of His plan for our life before we agree to follow His lead. We discover surprises along the way and, yes, nasty enemies lying in wait. The best preparation is to arm ourselves with confidence that He will never leave us.
Remember when Moses sent twelve spies to the Promised Land? They reported a land flowing with milk and honey, but the territory came with formidable enemies. Though Caleb said, “…We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it” (Numbers 13:30 NIV), ten spies fell prey to fear and turned the hearts of the Israelites away from their inheritance. They forgot to rest in the Hand that had carried them on numerous occasions.
Don’t turn back like the Israelites! You’ll suffer consequences when you choose to remain in the ‘wilderness’ apart from God’s will. You’re well able to take the new territory God has allocated to you.
So, don’t hesitate at the water’s edge. God has called you into the deep, and victory is waiting on the other side. Ready? One! Two! Three! Jump!
