Reconciled to God and Established in His Righteousness The Bible is very clear, our right standing (righteousness) and our reconciliation to God, came to us when we were helpless, ungodly sinners. Think of a helpless, drowning man. There was absolutely nothing we could do to save ourselves before or after the Lifeguard arrived. He did all of the saving as we rested in His arms.
For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person — though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation. Rom 5:6-11 CSB
Salvation is 1,000 percent by faith in the Son of God who loves us. It was all the work of God, who did not count our sins, but instead, reconciled us to Himself, making us a new creation in Christ.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Cor 5:17-19 NAS
But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy, unblemished, and blameless in His presence—Col 1:22 BSB
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:7b KJV
