Prescriptions for Peace: Part 1 Karen Pourbabaee “Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 NAB
God promises us a peace that will guard our minds and hearts. Not just fleeting peace, but a deep peace that surpasses the world’s understanding. A peace that will both leave us tranquil and comforted and will shine with the light and love of the Lord all around us. But we must participate in receiving this blessing of peace. The Lord has given us prescriptions to obtain it.
In the mind, it begins with right attitude. We are told twice to rejoice in Philippians 4. Practice being joyful, no matter your circumstances. Perhaps, you will see things differently. Practice kindness; put your focus on others and you will forget the chaos in your own life. Bring to remembrance that the Lord is near. He is Emmanuel, God with us.
Paul tells us to have no anxiety; don’t worry. In our hearts, we accomplish that by prayer. We are advised to pray about everything! Don’t keep worries, fears, and problems in your mind, but bring them before the Lord, letting your requests be made known to Him. Peter agreed: “Cast all your worries on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) Turn your fear into faith. And one last thing, pray with thanksgiving, from a heart that trusts in God’s care and provision.
Rejoice. Be kind. He’s near. No worries. Pray. Be thankful. Sow trust. Reap peace. Amen.
