Pray, Watch, Wait! - Karen Pourbabaee

Prayer is a mysterious encounter that God calls us to. Our prayer is always a response. And if He calls us, won’t He also listen? Do you still wonder if He does? In contrast to being far from the wicked, the Lord is near enough to catch our whispered words of prayer or read the unspoken words of our heart. He hears the prayers of the righteous. Another affirming Word is found in Psalm 5:4: “It is You whom I invoke, Lord. In the morning You hear me. In the morning, I offer You my prayer, watching and waiting.”
Prayer is an act of faith directed to the Lord that we invoke. It quickly becomes a living relationship, an exchange of dialogue and action based on that faith. In Psalm 5:4, we see that exchange take place; we call upon the Lord, He hears us, we offer our prayer, then we watch and wait. Indeed, one of the important elements of prayer is watchfulness. If we have genuine faith, another important element, we don’t just leave our prayer at the altar and forget about it. Faith is watchful! Faith is eagerly observant for the signs of God’s movements on our behalf. Faith anticipates God’s answer. And faith not only watches, but is willing to wait! “Good is the Lord to one who waits for Him, to the soul that seeks Him.” (Lamentations 3:25) He promises His goodness when we wait.
Have you offered up a prayer today? Now proclaim Psalm 130:5-6: “I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait. And in His Word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning.” Amen.
