Post Christmas Reflection- Ken Ebright
"The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I am bringing you good news that will be a great joy to all the people. Today your Savior was born in the town of David. He is Christ, the Lord. Luke 2:10:11." (NCV)
I was struggling emotionally this past Christmas. Like most people, I grew up with the mentality that you buy gifts on Christmas and spend time with your family. This year was notably lonely and painful due to COVID canceling much of Christmas.
In the midst of my struggle, the Lord used a stranger to remind me that I was guilty of forgetting the real reason for our yearly celebration. One day while riding the train to work, I overheard a lady say on her phone, "I can't wait until Christmas is over." God then brought to memory a bank manager I once delivered to as a courier who said she was happy on December 26th when she could turn off the Christmas music
It made me realize that we have even messed up Jesus' birthday. We know He did not come, so we would rush around and look forward to the day after Christmas. Nor did he come to ensure that department stores did well at the end of the year. Christmas is not about buying junk that will end up in the dumpster. It is not even about seeing others. Christmas is about our Savior who was born, Christ the Lord. He would die for our sins and give us eternal hope, knowing that we will be in heaven after we leave this world. I wonder if it makes Jesus sad when He sees how little time we have for Him, even on His birthday.
So, to let Him know how much we love Him, I think it would be fitting for us to spend more quality time with Jesus this New Year. He loves us more than we can even imagine, and our time spent with Him benefits us more than we will ever know. Indeed, we all know that we need Him more than He needs us—more than ever right now.
He wants you to spend more time with Him. Will you?
