PERFECT LOVE – Tammy Ortung We all crave love and acceptance on some level, even if it is just from our families. When we become adults, we extend this need for love to our spouses, children, and/or close friends. Unfortunately, people, even family and close friends, often end up disappointing and hurting us. They seem unable to give us the love and acceptance we need. We feel the injustice of it all when we accept their faults, yet they seem incapable of accepting ours. Yet we need to remember that every individual on the planet is imperfect and flawed and because of these deficiencies, they will hurt and disappoint us.
Personally, I deal with my own shortcomings every day. I pray each morning that God will strengthen me and help me be a good wife, friend, daughter, and so on, but inevitably I do or say something wrong and the conflict I’ve been trying so hard to avoid, slaps me upside the head. During these times I’m thankful my heavenly Father loves me unfailingly. He doesn’t give me what I deserve—tit for tat isn’t even in His vocabulary.
… “For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” (Psalm 103:11—12 NLT)
Unlike those who say they love us, yet seem to remember every single fault or mistake we've ever made. Or those who say they forgive us but can’t seem to forget. We have God who doesn’t accuse us and remembers our mistakes no more. Sometimes if we just hold onto that fact, we can get through the most difficult times.
The next time you’re dealing with hurts from those who are supposed to love you, pursue the One who never disappoints. God is waiting with open arms for those willingly seek the comfort only He can provide.
