Open My Eyes, Lord! - Karen Pourbabaee
“Open my eyes to see clearly the wonders of Your teachings.” Psalm 119:18 NAB
We all need clear vision to move forward, especially in these turbulent times. Psalm 119:18 is a good prayer to pray as we settle down to read God’s Word in search of His will and path for us. Year after year we may read the same verse, but God always has something new to show us for that moment in time; He wants to give us new insights. Why? The answer follows in the next verse: “I am a sojourner in the land.” (Psalm 119:19) We need the wisdom of God in our travels.
As we journey, God promises His counsel. “Your decrees are my delight, they are my counselors.” (Psalm 119:24) We can find His wisdom in His Word. Choose the good way of His counsel.
As we walk, He will shine His light on our path. “Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Choose to step in His revealed light.
As we travel, His Word comforts us. “When I recite Your edicts of old I am comforted, Lord.” (Psalm 119:52) Choose to travel peacefully.
Even when the path is rough, He strengthens us. “I weep in bitter pain; in accord with Your Word to strengthen me.” (Psalm 119:28) Choose to march courageously.
We can find joy along our path. “I find joy in the way of your decrees more than in all riches.” (Psalm 119:14) Restore your joy by seeking it in His Word. Choose to journey joyfully.
He sends us Living Hope in His Word. “Do not take the Word of truth from my mouth, for in Your edicts is my hope.” (Psalm 119:43) Choose the hope-filled road.
And finally, the Father will give us a new song to sing as we immerse ourselves in the nourishment of His Word. “Your laws become my songs wherever I make my home.” (Psalm 119:54) Keep a happy heart. Choose to sing along the way.
Open my eyes, Lord! I am a sojourner in this land, and I need Your vision. I pray to see the wonders of Your teachings and Your good Word for me as this New Year dawns. Amen.
