One Day At A Time – Jane H. Young
“A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away,” (Ecclesiastes 3:6 NASB).
There is an old hymn that I love called “One Day at a Time” (currently posted on YouTube). The song reminds me that we are only given today, for tomorrow may never be ours.
How should we live this new day God has given us? Here’s some advice Jesus gave: “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34 NASB)
Most of us are so busy planning for tomorrow or weeks down the road, we completely miss the blessing of today — the day God has given us now. Sadder still, are those days we leave behind but continually choose to dwell on; not the days that have left us fond memories, but bad ones — the days where things went wrong that we continue to let haunt us. Those memories can keep us in a place where we cannot or will not forget or forgive all that has happened to us. When we remain stuck in that place we are turning our back on this day, the one God gave us today — the one that starts a new beginning.
Everyday is the first day of the rest of our lives. We can choose to live it to the fullest moving forward, or miss the blessing of today by returning to the past.
Lord, I thank you for this day — the one I am living right now. Help me to rejoice and be glad in it and to live it in a way that will be pleasing to you.
