No Insignificant Thing – Jennifer Woodley ‘And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.’ Hebrews 10:24 (NIV).
The tiny girl stood cautiously at the top of the elevator while her mother waited anxiously below for the toddler to step onto the moving stairs. But she would not. I gently took her hand and looked down into her eyes that held fear and alarm. ‘You can do it,’ I said gently and smiled at her. ‘This will be fun.’ She took my hand warily and we chatted all the way down to the bottom. Such a simple act that spoke volumes to the girl and also her mother.
There are always new creative ways to encourage others. The Aramaic translation of Hebrews 10:24 says, ‘Let us look on one another with the excitement of love.’ And that is just what God wants us to do to those we meet today. He is excited about loving us and so we ought to be excited about loving others with simple, genuine acts of kindness. We were made for encouraging and motivating one another with beautiful works as an expression of our love for others and our love for Christ.
What simple, yet meaningful acts of kindness can we do today? Nothing is insignificant, for every hand offered, every smile given, and every word spoken can be an invitation to share love with another. To share Christ, and that is certainly no insignificant thing at all.
‘Father, help me to move beyond myself and look for the ways that I can be an expression of kindness and compassion, bringing encouragement and Christ to others today. Amen.’
