My Close Call – Ken Ebright
“I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. Jeremiah 29:11” (NCV)
I was traveling on I-64 in East St Louis at fifty-five miles an hour, until I noticed stopped traffic ahead of me. I slammed on the brakes and barely missed hitting a tractor-trailer. Later on, that night, two thoughts came to mind. First is how Jesus preserved my life. I thank God for that, I could have had serious injuries or even died if I had hit that semitruck.
My second thought was in reference to the verse from Jeremiah, which says “I have good plans for you not to hurt you. I will give you hope and a future.” Maybe the Lord has a purpose for me on this earth. Many times, I have wondered. My past has been littered with great trials, a learning disability in school and an alcoholic mom who eventually committed suicide when I was young. With both of my parents abandoning me and never marrying myself, I have felt unloved and without a purpose at times.
There must be others who feel unloved and not good enough because of their past. Maybe my hope and future include showing others how to have a hope and a future using my own personal experience, I know my trials have made me appreciate those times when others have reached out to me. I am sure some who did, were struggling in their own life. Just the thought of them forgetting about themselves and loving me, made their efforts all the more precious. If I am thankful for others who have shared Christs love me with me, I know others will be too.
We all have a reason for being here, including you. Pray and ask the Lord to show you the good plans He has for you. I know it will involve the love of Christ and forgetting yourself. Maybe it will also involve the trials you have come through and Who got you to the other side. People are really hurting. It is a great time to get started.
