Loosening Our Grip, Lessens the Fear Michael Edwards There's a lot of fear affecting believers today. Much of this fear comes as we hold too tightly to the treasures we have in this temporary world. Things we treasure include possessions, money, and those we love.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:19 NAS
Loosening our hold on the things of this world now, and focusing our eyes on the big picture, can rid our hearts of the fear of loss, allowing our love and faith to shine in dark times.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Cor 4:18 NIV
As followers of Christ, we must remember that we have overcome the world in Christ and are citizens of heaven. It is when we forget our true identity and begin to believe this world is all there is, that we experience fear.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Phil 3:20 ESV
None of us know when we will leave this world. The good news is that God promises He will take care of us no matter what happens. He also promises that all the treasure we build in heaven will be there waiting for us. And those we love, who allow God to save them, will be there too. Be assured; God keeps His word. What we see today will one day be a distant memory, and everything will be new.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. Rev 21:1 ESV
Dear Father, I know you are in ultimate control. Help me to loosen my grip on things in this world. Help my heart to focus solely on your promises and my treasure in eternity. With my heart set free from the fear of loss, help me to walk in your peace in all circumstances, loving, praying for, helping and encouraging others as I point them to Jesus and eternal life. Amen
