Jump for Joy - Jane H. Young
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24 ESV)
I was looking at some videos on my phone from a few years ago and came across one of my grandsons as he was about to meet his baby brother for the first time. He was so excited he jumped up and down shouting “yea—yea!” as he saw the car pulling into the driveway. He was so overwhelmed with joy, he let his joy shine.
I questioned myself as I watched my grandson’s joy and thought, ‘when was the last time I felt even a small amount of joy or excitement like that?’
When’s the last time you felt joyful enough to shout and jump around? It shouldn’t stop because we’re no longer kids. Yes, there’s lot of things that weigh us down in life, but should we let that steal our joy? “A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22 NASB)
My grandson didn’t hide the joy he was feeling, and we shouldn’t either. When you’re happy and excited about something, let that feeling come out. Shout a little, laugh, cry, and leap with happiness. Don’t let trials overshadow a joyful moment. Grab it and enjoy it to the fullest!
Let’s share our joy even in the smallest of things. It will be contagious to those around us. In these days when Covid-19 is spreading like wildfire, everyone could use a break from the stress, even if it’s just for a few seconds. A joyful heart is good medicine — let’s be a spreader like that!
Prayer: Father help me to embrace those moments in life that bring joy no matter how small they may be. Let me not overlook them. This is the day you have made I will rejoice and be glad in it.
